Laufey Jónsdóttir & nemendur í leikskólanum Álfaborg / Álfaborg preschool
Börn léku sér áður fyrr að beinum og hornum af sauðkindinni og Laufey var þar engin undantekning. Hún gat þekkt einstakar kindur úr fjarska af svip þeirra, látbragði og göngulagi og gat hermt eftir þeim. Sem barn gerði hún klippimyndir af kindum og húsdýrum og þegar hún var komin á efri ár tók hún aftur upp þessa iðju. Laufey teiknaði dýrin ekki upp heldur lét skærin leiða sig áfram til að draga fram formin. Hún klippti út dýr og fólk og litaði fígúrurnar sínar.
Árlega efnir Safnasafnið til samstarfs við leikskóla Svalbarðsstrandarhrepps. Samstarfið er hugsað til þess að efla listrænan áhuga og hugmyndaflug barnanna frá unga aldri, en Álfaborg hefur tekið þátt í sýningum safnsins á þriðja áratug. Safninu er heiður og ánægja af þátttöku þeirra, lífsgleði og sköpunarkrafti. Í ár sköpuðu börnin verk út frá klippimyndum listakonunnar Laufeyjar Jónsdóttur undir sýningarheitinu Sveitalíf.

In the past Icelandic children played with the bones and horns of sheep and Jónsdóttir was no exception. She was able to identify individual sheep by their expression or gait from a far. As a child she would make cutouts of sheep from paper or card, never outlining them beforehand, but guiding a scissors spontaneously. Later in life she again took up making cutouts of people, sheep and lambs, horses, dogs and cats. These artworks are an illustration of the Icelandic way of life in bygone days.
Every year, the museum organizes a collaboration between the preschool of the neighbouring village of Svalbarðsströnd. The collaboration is intended to encourage the children’s artistic interest and imagination from an early age. Children from Álfaborg preschool have participated in the museum’s exhibitions for thirty years. The museum is honoured by their participation, joy and creativity. This year, the children created works informed by farm life and inspired by the collages of the artist Laufey Jónsdóttir under the exhibition title Country Life.
