Guðrún Jónasdóttir (1914-2007)

Guðrún sótti umfjöllunarefni sín gjarnan í þjóðsögur, landslag, náttúru og atburði sem eiga rætur í fornum minnum. Vefstykkin lúta ekki alltaf hefðbundnum aðferðum og eru sum þeirra blönduð saumi og ullarflóka. Guðrún hélt nokkrar kindur í Galtarey á Breiðafirði, en eyjuna keypti hún af föður sínum sem var síðasti ábúandinn í Öxney. Hún nýtti alla ull af kindum sínum og vann hana sjálf í verk sín, en verkin vann hún öll á sínum efri árum.

Jónasdóttir’s works employ themes of folklore, landscape, nature, and events rooted in ancient memory. Her woven pieces sometimes adhere to traditional methods, while others blend embroidery and felted wool. Jónasdóttir kept several sheep on the Galtarey island in the Breiðafjord archipelago. She bought the island from her father who was the last resident of Öxney island. Jónasdóttir utilised the wool from her sheep, and processed it herself into her creations when she started creating in her senior years.
