Erla Björk Sigmundsdóttir

Erla Björk Sigmundsdóttir was born in1973 and lives in the ecovillage Sólheimar in South Iceland, a sustainable community known for its artistic and ecological atmosphere. Erla works in diverse art techniques, and as well as making art, studies music and plays in a bell quire. She is also a member of the Sólheimar Theatre Group, which has staged plays in Reykjavík City Theatre, The National Theater and in Madrid. 

Erla has since 2010 worked extensively at Sólheimar weaving workshop, embroidering in her own particular way, choosing both figurative and abstract motifs, as well as making three-dimensional works. Coordinator of the Sólheimar weaving workshop is Karen Ósk Sigurðardóttir. Erla has participated in the nationwide yearly artfestival Art without Boundaries, and in the last years her works have gained great admiration for their original beauty, expression and vigour.
